My first formal introduction to lettering/type design was through Japanese calligraphy courses. As an undergrad, I majored in linguistics while studying Japanese and Chinese, which is why I sometimes like to create lettering projects in Japanese and Chinese, although I am interested in how type design is applied to and influenced by all writing systems.

Lettering project based on parallel pen writing. "Kizaminori" means shredded, dried, unseasoned seaweed in Japanese.

Lettering project where I experimented with blocky, unfinished forms. "Saiyaku" means disaster in Japanese.
