Typeface sketches

Intro

The main feature of this project is type, and the concept behind the type is Oktoberfest. I pulled from blackletter forms because of their strong association to German culture, and incorporated them with counterless, sharp geometric forms, giving the type a heavy, moody, and electric feel.

I referenced typefaces with influences of blackletter script, as well as MAD's heavy bold logotype and design system.

I was attracted to the strong alignment created by these heavy forms as they allowed for bold and impactful type lockups

Development of the letter "F"

I initially had incorporated blackletter elements as decorative counter forms, but in the end decided on a type design that was simpler and heavier.
